JG Thirlwell has designed a shirt for The Wire magazine. Entitled FORK, the shirt is printed in black, grey and white on a red shirt with The Wire url printed in white on the right sleeve. It is available exclusively from The Wire in a limited edition of 100, and is available in small, medium, large, XL and womens large. Price (including postage and packing) is £20 for UK, £22 elsewhere. Wire subscribers get £2 off per shirt.

Kronos perform JG Thirlwell at Carnegie Hall

Kronos Quartet will be performing a newly commissioned piece by JG Thirlwell at Zankel Hall in Carnegie Hall in New York City on March 12. Entitled Eremikophobia, which means fear of deserts and sand, the multi-movement eighteen minute piece will open the evening. The evening’s program also features toy piano virtuoso Margaret Leng Tan and Portuguese instrument builder Victor Gama. To conclude, Kronos will be joined by Matmos in a tribute to Terry Riley.

Ripped T-Shirts

JG Thirlwell appears in a new book by Cesar Padilla entitled Ripped : T-shirts from the Underground. Described as a “A visual history of counterculture music T-shirts, spanning the defining era of indie music.”, the book features several Foetus and Wiseblood shirt designs, as well as writings by JG Thirlwell about Swans and Lydia Lunch. Lydia also penned the introduction to the book, which also contains contributions from Thurston Moore, Betsey Johnson and more. You can purchase your very own copy here!

Manorexia: The Mesopelagic Waters

The new album from Manorexia has been recorded and mixed. Entitled The Mesopelagic Waters, it will be released on March 23rd on John Zorn’s Tzadik label. The album is 50 minutes long and contains eight tracks, radically rearranged from the first two Manorexia albums. You can preorder the album now.
It is performed by the chamber ensemble version of Manorexia in the arrangements that JG has been performing and perfecting over the last couple of years. The album features the playing of David Cossin on percussion, Leyna Marika Papach on violin, Elena Moon Park on violin, Karen Waltuch on viola, Felix Fan on cello, David Broome on piano and JG Thirlwell on samples/keys, compositions.It was recorded and mixed at Eastside Studios in NYC and engineered by Marc Urselli.

Yet another Manorexia album will be released toward the end of 2010. As yet untitled, this studio album of all-new material will be released in stereo and 5:1 surround sound.

Two Foetus albums are tied for the honor of number one album of the decade by the venerable website Popshifter: Foetus Love and Foetus Damp.

Spectre Collie names the Venture Bros album as one of the two best albums of the year .

And in the Brainwashed reader polls, JG Thirlwell’s The Venture Bros soundtrack was voted #27 album of the year, while Foetus Limb was voted #21 in “from the vaults” album of the year:

JG Thirlwell DJs New Years Eve with Golden Triangle

JG Thirlwell will be ringing in the new decade DJ-ing on New Years Eve with the exciting and raucous avant-garage band Golden Triangle at Glasslands Gallery in Brooklyn. Also on the bill will be Electric Tickle Machine, DJ Arthur Arbit and special guests. Doors are at 9, admission is $10.

Foetus International Shirt Series #3 – Japanese

Ectopic Ents is proud to announce the third in the series of “International Foetus Attire” T-shirts – now in Japanese. This striking shirt is printed in red and white on a black shirt. It features a large graphic “Foetus” expressed phonetically in Katakana, while below it says “ultra exploding excitement!” The graphic is 11 1/2 inches by 7 1/2 inches. (29cm x 19cm). Printed on 100% pre-shrunk cotton Gildan brand shirts, available in Baby Doll, Medium Youth, S, M, L, XL and XL2.

Please note that due to the nature of the double-printing on this shirt, it should only be washed in cold water with the shirt inside out, and dried on a hanger, not in a clothes dryer.

The first shirt in the series, featuring Foetus expressed phonetically in Arabic, is sold out. There remains a very limited quantity of the Russian shirt available, in L and XL sizes only.
